Frontline work can be unpredictable and emotionally
demanding. After a difficult or high-stress incident, staff are often expected
to carry on with their shift while maintaining professionalism, empathy, and
composure. This workshop provides practical, evidence-informed strategies to
help frontline workers reset and ground themselves while on shift, and move
forward in a more regulated state.
Drawing on polyvagal theory, participants will learn quick
vagal stimulation exercises that can be used discreetly on shift to restore
balance and calm. The session also explores effective low-impact debriefing
methods that allow for processing and support without re-traumatizing
colleagues. It also introduces self-care techniques that foster self-attunement
and regulation, designed to be quick and accessible enough to use on the job.
In addition, we will highlight post-shift recovery practices that support rest,
processing, and renewal between shifts.
Through guided practice and reflection, you will leave with a toolkit of practical, accessible techniques that can be applied in real time - helping you manage the impact of stressful events, sustain your well-being, and continue engaging meaningfully in your work.
Participants should be in a comfortable space where they can engage in the workshop (and ideally be ready to have cameras on)
